When you donate a car with Coastal Wheels in Melbourne, your gift stays connected to your own community. We arrange pickup right at your home, office, or storage lot anywhere in the Space Coast area, from Eau Gallie and Wickham Park neighborhoods to Viera, Suntree, West Melbourne, and Palm Bay. A local towing partner picks up your vehicle at a time that works for you, usually within a few days, and you never pay a fee.
Here’s how it works: you tell us where the vehicle is in the Melbourne area, we schedule a local tow truck, and they handle the loading—even if the car won’t start. The vehicle is then sold, and the proceeds support Heritage for the Blind’s mission serving people who are blind or visually impaired. You’ll receive a tax receipt and the peace of mind that your local donation is helping people while clearing space in your driveway. Whether you’re near Historic Downtown Melbourne, the Melbourne Causeway, or out toward Melbourne Beach and Satellite Beach, we bring the process right to your door.
How to schedule your free local pickup
1. Tell us about your vehicle and location
Start by sharing a few basics about your car, truck, SUV, or van and exactly where it’s parked in the Melbourne area—whether that’s a driveway in West Melbourne, a condo lot in Indian Harbour Beach, or a workplace near Melbourne Orlando International Airport. The more accurate your location and vehicle condition details, the easier it is for us to match you with the right local tow operator.
2. Choose a pickup day that fits your schedule
Once we have your info, we’ll work with our local Space Coast towing partners to offer a pickup window. We aim for a day and time that fits your routine, including evenings or weekends when available. Urban spots near Downtown or the Eau Gallie Arts District often have more flexible timing, while more rural or barrier-island addresses may need a slightly wider pickup window.
3. Prepare keys, title, and parking access
Before pickup day, locate the vehicle title if you have it, clear out personal items, and make sure the car is accessible. That might mean arranging guest parking in a gated Suntree community, moving another car from in front of a disabled vehicle in Palm Bay, or sharing gate or building codes. Our tow partner will guide you on where to leave keys and paperwork if you won’t be home.
4. Meet (or not) for the free tow-away
On pickup day, a local tow truck arrives, loads your vehicle, and handles all the transport at no cost to you. You’re welcome to be there to hand over keys and title, but in many Melbourne and Space Coast neighborhoods we can coordinate a no-contact pickup if paperwork is signed in advance and there’s clear access. The driver will confirm final details and answer any last-minute questions about the process.
5. Receive your tax receipt and help your community
After your vehicle is sold, Coastal Wheels sends you a tax receipt documenting your donation, typically reflecting at least $500, with additional IRS Form 1098-C documentation if required. Your local Melbourne-area donation then goes on to support Heritage for the Blind’s services for people who are blind or visually impaired. You clear space at home, skip the hassle of selling, and know your gift is making a meaningful difference.
Local pickup gotchas
Tight condo or apartment parking lots
Tip: In parts of Downtown Melbourne, Eau Gallie, or beachside complexes, tow trucks may struggle with low garages, narrow aisles, or permit-only lots. If possible, move the vehicle to an open guest space or curb area that allows tow access and doesn’t violate HOA or city parking rules. Let us know any restrictions so we can send the right kind of truck.
Gated communities and access codes
Tip: Neighborhoods in Suntree, Viera, and some West Melbourne subdivisions often have manned gates or keypad entry. Be sure to add your towing appointment to the gate list or provide temporary codes. If the driver can’t get through the gate, they may need to reschedule, which delays your donation and tax receipt. Share clear entrance instructions when you book your pickup.
Very low-clearance or off-road locations
Tip: Vehicles parked off unpaved roads west of I-95 or on soft sand near rural areas toward Malabar or Grant-Valkaria can be difficult for standard flatbeds. Tell us if the vehicle is in a backyard, behind a house, or off a dirt lane so we can plan appropriate equipment or ask you to move it closer to a solid, level surface that a tow truck can safely reach.
Missing keys or title surprises
Tip: In Florida, having the title makes the process smoother. If the title or keys are lost, pickup may still be possible but can take longer and require extra steps. Let us know upfront if you’re missing paperwork so we can discuss options based on Florida DMV rules. Don’t wait until the driver arrives to mention missing keys or documents, as that can force a return visit.
If at-home pickup is tricky
If standard at-home pickup is tricky for your situation—maybe your HOA in Indian Harbour Beach has strict towing rules, your vehicle is deep in a repair bay, or your narrow historic street in Downtown Melbourne can’t fit a flatbed—talk with us about alternatives. In some cases, you can drive or tow the vehicle to a nearby open lot or public street where our tow partner can safely load it. We can also look at scheduling during lighter traffic hours or coordinating with your property manager so your donation can still move forward smoothly.
Melbourne pickup coverage
Coastal Wheels serves the entire Melbourne and Space Coast region, including neighborhoods like Eau Gallie, Melbourne Village, and Harbor City, plus suburbs and nearby communities such as West Melbourne, Palm Bay, Viera, Suntree, Satellite Beach, and Melbourne Beach. Pickup in denser areas near US-1 and New Haven Avenue can often be scheduled quickly, while more rural addresses toward Malabar, Grant-Valkaria, or north toward Cocoa may need a broader time window. For Florida donors, you’ll typically sign the title over to complete the donation and remove your license plate—then return or transfer the plate per Florida DMV guidance. We’re happy to talk through the steps, though we don’t provide legal or tax advice.
